Paolo Bettini is a retired Italian professional road bicycle racer who was born on April 1, 1974, in Cecina, Tuscany, Italy. During his career, Paolo Bettini achieved numerous notable victories. He won the UCI Road World Championships twice, in 2006 and 2007, becoming only the second rider in history to win the rainbow jersey (the distinctive jersey worn by the reigning world champion) in consecutive years. He also won the Milan-San Remo classic in 2003 and 2007, the Giro di Lombardia in 2005 and 2006, and several stages in prestigious stage races such as the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia.
